SEPTEMBER 2008:

School has started!!  This is an exciting time of year; a time when everyone still has an “A” and a time for new beginnings.  In the season of new beginnings, it is fitting that “Convergence” will mark this year with a new beginning as well.  In an effort to reach students in this community that aren’t being reached, our students have committed to do something that hasn’t been done.  Convergence is moving Wednesday 7 PM to Sunday 7 PM and hosting community groups that are a predictable and safe place for the cultivation of relationships through the course of the week.  This transition will begin with the Sunday PM gathering September 7 and community groups the week of September 15-18.  I am confident that God can and will use any effort we allow him to.  Thus, I can’t wait to see what he has in store for growing his kingdom in the city of Lubbock.

If your community group is interested in supplying snacks and getting to know students at the Sunday, 7 PM gathering some time this semester, please e-mail Daniel at danielc@sp-coc.org or Debbie Griffin at debbie.griffin@ttu.edu

Puerto Rico Spring Break Trip

by Wanda Dyess

Alan and I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Arecibo, Puerto Rico with Daniel and a fantastic group of university men and women to work side by side with Jim & Connie Gullette.

The congregation was planning a Tent Revival on the weekend we were leaving, so we had a week to hand out invitations and brochures about the congregation.  Our group along side brothers and sisters from Arecibo handed out thousands of invitations and made contact with numerous folk.  The group also worked at the camp in the mountains, painting, making a cinder block baptistery, and some concrete walls.

We were blessed to work with eight awesome college students who were fun, gracious, hardworking and cooperative who won over the hearts of several of the members there.  We have received three emails from Arecibo brothers since our return, and a phone call from a very excited Jim Gullette, who reported on the number of visitors that showed up for services on Saturday night.  As Daniel said Sunday morning, “We saw Jesus there.”  Amen to that.
