Our Mission:

Loving God,

Loving Others,

 Serving the World

The Serve Our Soldiers (SOS) Ministry is a part of the Women’s Ministry group at South Plains.  The purpose of this ministry is to help those serving in the military who have connections to South Plains Church of Christ to stay close to their Savior, to realize that they are living in a mission field, and to assure them that they are still part of a loving church family.  This is accomplished through both prayer and sending boxes stuffed full of all kinds of encouragement to the soldiers every six to eight weeks.  Another facet of this ministry is to serve and encourage the spouses of these soldiers in a similar manner.

There are many ways to be involved with this ministry.  One can send cards and letters to the soldiers at the addresses below.  One can pray frequently for these soldiers.  One can opt to be on the e-mail list to be informed about what is going on in the ministry and the soldiers.  One can attend the Wednesday night box packing sessions.  One can donate AA batteries, magazines, $10 phone cards or $30 phone cards by leaving them in the blue tubs marked SOS ministry in the church lobby.  One can also donate money to this ministry by noting it on the memo line of a check and placing it in the collection plate.

I received a package from your ministry today and I wanted to thank you for spending your valuable time to do this for me and any other troops you are encouraging. It makes doing this a lot easier knowing we have people that support our efforts with prayer and encouragement. I am in my first month of my deployment to Iraq and am glad to know I will have prayers not only from my family but from your ministry. I am due to come home in August of 2009 and will be married shortly thereafter, (December 12). I just wanted to let you know a little about myself and thank you from the bottom of my heart!

In Him

Airman David Gurley

24019   B Street  Room 1061

Beale AFB, CA  95903

Son of Steve and Jeanette Gurley

My church family, I would like to thank you for your continued support and prayers. The SOS ministry has continued to reach not only me, but all my fellow Airman here at Beale AFB. Each time I receive a new package EVERYONE knows. I always treat them with some news from good ole' Lubbock Texas and usually get to share some goodies with them. This usually sparks conversation about my church family and gives me ample opportunities to let everyone know how great a family in Christ can be! On a more personal and selfish note. I received the Holiday box and could not have been more excited, I can not thank you enough for how much that raised my spirits, and in a way, made the upcoming holidays not seem so lonely. Thank you so much.
