April 8, 2008 FURLOUGH AND WILDFIRE OUTREACH MISSION REPORT
Thank you to all of you who made our first furlough time an amazingly relaxing and uplifting time. As you read this newsletter, we will be already living in Rwanda. We will continue to send a quarterly update to keep all of you informed of the progress of our work. Thank you so much and may God bless all of you. On Sunday evening, March 23, 2008, we had a congregational question and answer session with Kyle Beard concerning the work in Rwanda, moderated by one of our elders, Gary Evans. Click here to hear the audio (Windows Media Player required).
From Mission Moments, Sunday, March 16, 2008:
As many of you heard yesterday Luz, Koen, and Heaven and I are returning to Rwanda at the end of this month, March! We are in heavy preparation to get underway with packing and closing this chapter of our furlough. There is great excitement in our Rwandan family and in us to get back into the progressive work going on in Kigali, but we still are in need of some financial commitments before we can go back in 3 weeks. The hardest part of missions is the expense it takes to make a mission work. Being in the center of Africa makes everything in country much more expensive and so it just requires a little extra to acquire basic goods we need to do ministry. It is our goal to raise approximately $10,000 dollars before we go back to Rwanda. A portion of this money will go to shipping our basic goods like beds, computer, and several boxed items and the other will go directly to basic needs we will have to acquire on the ground like a stove and refrigerator, washer and dryer. Luz likes to call this “nesting”. Please pray for us as we prepare to go back and please consider helping this mission in any way you can.
For the Kingdom, Kyle, Luz, Koen, and Heaven Beard
From the South Plains Church of Christ Monthly Newsletter for March 2008:
Beards Return to Rwanda by Charles Stephenson
After a period of time to refresh from the struggles of the mission work in Rwanda, the Beards are ready to return. As Kyle has said, “We miss our home.” It is so good to be supporting a mission where the missionaries feel at home.
Kyle is raising funds for things that will be needed to solidify their mission as stable in the eyes of the Rwandan Christians. While they were in Rwanda, the motor in their car completely died. They had to sell their washer and dryer to repair their car. So, as they return they will need to re-supply for an even longer stay this time. Please pray that God will bless them as they look for this support.
The Beards plan to be with us for several Sundays before their return on March 31, 2008. If any of our adult class leaders are interested in having Kyle speak to their class before he returns, please contact Ralph to let this be known.
The Beards have firm goals for the kingdom as they return. They will be moving to another part of town to help the church as it develops there. This movement will give the church a presence in a different area of Kigali, Rwanda. With the contacts the Beards already have, we look forward to a great blessing for the church with this work. Please keep all of our missionaries in your prayers. Especially pray for the Beards as they return to Rwanda. Please ask that God will lead them to many people who will respond to his gospel. May God be glorified in this work.
